The painted banner in our photo was from around 1956. It was painted by De Neefe & Co. for Odd Bod, Father John McNamara. Apparently this banner was fairly quickly replaced by the banner made at the Austin/Heidelberg Repatriation General Hospital by a seamstress in the hospital laundry. That later banner served many good years at Odd Bods events including the Anzac Day March and is now on display in the hospital chapel.

Hello, my name is Mike Oram, I am the son of FLTLT Johnny Oram, DFC and Bar, who appears in both the photos from the old Aircrew Club (unsurprisingly with a cold ale in hand) published in your newsletter. I was wondering whether you might have higher resolution copies of these photos that I could access?
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, I was wondering how I go about becoming a member of the Friends of the Odd Bods? I was saddened to read Wally and George's comments on the inevitable demise of the original association and I think the 'spin-off' group is a great way to continue a grand tradition. The Odd Bods played a significant role in my life, from their assistance to my mother and I after the unexpected passing of my father when I was quite young, through to me being honoured to address the members at the VE Day Commemoration at the Shrine a few years ago when I was Commanding Officer 32 Squadron. Keep up the good work.
